Tadelakt: Liquid Stone

Tadelakt is an ancient Plastering technique, originating in Morocco and dating back thousands of years.

It starts off as limestone extracted from the Atlas mountains, which is then baked, transformed into a powder, and carefully sifted to produce a very fine lime plaster.

Once applied, the wet plaster is meticulously polished by hand to create a smooth surface and close down the pores.

But the magic happens at the end of the process. When the lime plaster is combined with olive oil soap, the two ingredients produce a chemical reaction that makes the surface waterproof and reveals the layered texture.

In a way, the material returns to its origin, becoming limestone once again.
